So....the kittens are so sweet and everything and the kids are in love and we're keeping up with the litter box, poop for poop,(clumping flushable litter) and still....it reeks!
It's most disconcerting. I don't want to be one of those houses where you walk in and the first thing you smell is the cat box. I don't remember cats stinking this much? Is it because there are two? What to do? We can't get rid of them now that we're all in love.
Today, Todd discovered the problem. Seems the kitties have been using the bin for recycled newspapers as their second bathroom. We'll have to put the bins downstairs in the laundry room and keep the door shut until these babies figure out everything. Less convienient, but already....the house smells fresh again! Whew!

Cats have that smell. It's life, I think. Those who have them get used to it, those who don't...don't. They are cute though...maybe Frebreeze??
Two words, "cat door"!
A cat door would be great if somethnig outside didn't EAT our last cat!
I'm going to win this battle of the smelly cat box. I've taken on worse enemies than this!
I'm just bopping around the blogosphere and thought that I would drop you a hint - its sort of a warning. My cats think plastic bags are for peeing on and will do it anywhere they find them. So if your kitties used the newspapers in that bin, be careful where you leave newspapers lying around! They may pee on top of them anywhere you leave them.
I used to use a littermaid with clumping litter. It smelled so bad that I switched to another one called scoop free. (www.scoopfree.com) This thing is much better, it uses crystal litter so there is almost no smell at all. Its really simple too, I just toss out the entire bottom cartridge once a month.
