Mental Health Day

I kept both kids home from school on a mental health day. Riley and I needed it and Seth didn't want to be left out. There will be no bathing. No showering. No getting dressed. No rushing. No leaving the house. No cleaning. No cooking. No crying. No guilt.

They are playing.

I am laying low. Eating muffins. Drinking coffee.

Gathering momentum.

A well-deserved day off, it seems to me, after the stress of your mother-daughter retreat.

Don't let those occasional set-backs get you down, though. Considering the quantum leaps Riley has made, you should feel nothing but good about where you guys are.

We have friends with a 16-year old daughter on the autism spectrum, and the other night we saw her perform on the gymastics junior varsity team for the first, where she successfully executed a very complicated floor exercise with nary a mistake. She earned very enthusiastic applause from the audience, and hugs from all her teammates. A few years ago, Maddie was far behind where Riley appears to be now, so you should, I think, look forward to a very bright future.

Enjoy your day off.
