From One Mom to Another

If you are pregnant or have small children or are even thinking about starting a family, I urge you to read up on safer vaccination practices.

The ever expanding immunization schedule (see Kim Stagliano's blog)was put in place not to protect your child, but to pad the pockets of a select few. Unfortunately, people standing to make a lot of money from vaccines were also in charge of vaccine safety. Too eager to push new vaccines through the approval process, they made hasty decisions without proper study.

Dr. Stephanie Cave wrote a book titled What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Childhood Vaccinations. I heard her speak at a DAN! conference a couple of years ago and I really liked her. She became a doctor later in life, after raising her children. I like to think this gives her an edge in the "not losing your soul" battle that so many kids in med school unfortunaly are worn down from and defeated by. In her book, Cave informs parents about immunizations and outlines a safer vaccination schedule to follow.

If your doctor isn't willing to alter the vaccination schedule, or treats you disrespectfully, get up and leave. The idea of searching for a new doctor may seem daunting, but compared to the reality of raising a vaccine injured child? Trust me. Confronting a rude physician is a piece of cake.

I am a registered nurse. I am not anti-vaccine. I understand the need for protecting the public health. I do however live with the cost of "following the herd" mentality every day.

Another source to look at is Dr. Mercola's
site. It's pretty "in your face" but then again, so is autism.

I don't know why I even beat this drum? It's not like it's gonna help my children? Besides, no one wants to hear this. But then again, maybe one person will listen? That one? I write this for you.

This is excellent advice, Michelle. To your readers, I would add that vaccines are a valuable and important part of modern medicine, but that doesn't mean that everything the drug companies get the CDC to put on the vaccine schedule is really necessary, nor does it mean that the contents or the manner and schedule for their adminstration are really safe.

A growing body of research indicates the possibility of a genetic succeptibility in some children to some vaccine ingredients, including mercury and aluminum compounds. I urge everyone to take their time and administer the vaccines to their children over a longer time period instead of having 2-4 vaccines on one day. Also, be sure to check the ingredients (your doctor will provide you with the "insert" upon request).

As a father to an autistic child in recovery, I can assure you that slowing the process down a bit and doing your own investigation is well worth the time and effort.

You wrote it for me and I thank you. As I said, I just couldn't vaccinate for the first year, then got one for my daughter. Now I'm stalled, not knowing what to do. I will follow the trail that you present, and will pass that info along to every pregnant woman and new mother I encounter. That's a huge gift. We are listening, please say more, say whatever comes to you to offer.

HPV mandated for 9 year olds by a governor who has ties to Merck should convince even the wariest skeptic. HPV stops a few strains of genital warts. If you get ovarian cancer, you HAD the warts. Which is not the same as saying if you HAVE THE WARTS you'll get ovarian cancer. It's all in the wording. Same as Hep B at birth - Hep B is primarily transmitted through unsafe sex and IV drug abuse. Not even Pam Anderson's boys were getting it on in their isolettes in the hospital nursery. Read and think for your own child. That's all most of us autism moms are saying. Use your common sense and don't be bullied.

Looked at Kim's blog and I'm so glad I don't have to fight this battle right now but my heart goes out to new moms and the decisions they need to make about this issue. Thanks for giving us all good information and resources.

Exactly! You may feel that you are preaching to the choir, Michelle, or that your audience isn't being swayed, but I assure you, you are a missionary in the autism field, and those of us in the field next to you, appreciate whatever you do to raise awareness!

No, it is so important that you beat this drum! And not being Anti-shots, and an RN makes it all even more important, I think. People just think you are "one of THOSE" people, when you question shots. But you have ground to stand on, you are not a hippie-sprout-eating-hemp-wearing-nut.

Don't stop doing what you do, or saying what you say! Get it out there!

because of you, and my dear friend (whose sone was just diagnosed), I am not going to follow the herd with Lil'G. It had always gone against my gut, and what you have said has given me more backbone about it.

I thank you.

Thank you. I am paying attention, too. I don't have kids, but I will. I hope to, maybe in another 5 years or so... I definitely value what you have to say about all this and I will pass it on to my friends.

And, thanks for reminding to buy the new Patty Griffin CD. Got it today, listening right now.

Are you kidding? You are one of the best people to speak about this stuff, you are the voice of reason. Of course nobody wants to hear about this stuff, until it's too late. Rave On! Oh yeah, you are the most polite ranter I've ever met.

I remember asking about autism in relation to vaccines. It's pooh-poohed because of the low odds (underplayed?).

I am facing anther issue. HPV vaccine. My daughter is 12. Do I want her to get that shot? She's a very sensible girl-very outspoken. It's almost a false security if girls don't really understand the meaning for the shot. It's like permission to have "safe" sex (or that they won't get HPV) or it's a form of birth control. I don't know. I guess I will have to do research on that.
