Word Girl

"I don’t want to pay the mortgage on a pile of goo!"

He was in the next room, playing with his sister. It stopped me in my tracks.

The word "mortgage" sounded so strange coming out of a four year old?

The next day at the dinner table Seth said,

"Mom. Vicious means violent and mean."

"Um-hm," I nodded. "Eat your peas."

distracted

timid

cumbersome

demolished

These are just some of the words peppering my kid's conversations these days.

They've discovered Word Girl on PBS kids dot com.

I followed you from Kim's blog. This post was very meaningful to me (ask Kim she'll tell you why!)

Excellent. I used to play a word game with my teachers in second grade. There were a bunch of 7 yr olds trotting around saying that the clouds on the playground were "ominous" and that the cafeteria pizza was indeed "revolting."

Cheers to the power of a strong vocabulary!

I am going to check that out for the kids. Thanks. My kids are too much into Club Penguin. http://play.clubpenguin.com/
I only give them one hour. But, definitely, I will check it out. Double thanks.

The other day I was having dinner with my 4-year-old friend Willa, and I said, "here you can put this olive stuff on your bread."

She said, real slow so I'd understand, "Jess, it's called olive tapenade."

A child's capacity to learn is one of life's miracles. Watching it happen is one of life's greatest joys. Thanks for letting us peek in on this.

LOVE Jess's comment. Know that exact tone.
