Precious Boy

On the way to get Riley at school today I didn't turn the car radio on. When we got there, as I turned off the engine, Seth, from his seat in the back said,

"Mom, I almost felt God."

Unbuckling him, I said, "What do you mean, Seth?"

"I was really quiet and I almost felt God." He looked at me, with happy wide eyes. His tattered blanket in one chubby hand, a Wiggles figurine in the other.

"Did you feel peaceful Seth? Did you feel love?" I took a moment to look into his eyes, not pulling him out of the van just yet .

"Yeah." he said.

I smiled.

"Then you did it Seth. You did feel God. In the stillness."

I lifted him out onto the sidewalk and took his hand. As we walked up the little hill toward the school he said,

"Mom, God is kind of like a meditation."

He is four.

Seth started out the day with a cough. He went to preschool in the morning but it's become progressively worse as the day has gone on. During dinner, he asked to leave the table and shortly after he started throwing up.

All day long I was in a frenzy, but I finally found my stillness, in a dimly lit bedroom, rocking this precious little boy in my arms.

Clearly, I have much to learn from him, if I slow down and listen.

I'm sure it's easy to find God where ever you and your family are.

I find God every time I read your words, Michelle. Every time, every post. God shines through your words and your life.

And your kids.

God is ommipresent. He is everywhere: In the wind, in your conciousness (that inner voice that tells you what you know you should do), in your loved ones faces and actions, in nature...He is everywhere.

Isn't that comforting? He can be there for everyone if they stop and listen.

Thanks for sharing.

So, so precious. What a sweet, amazing boy. I adore this post. Reading your words makes me so excited for all I will learn from my daughter some day, and eager to listen as deeply as you do.

And I hope he feels better soon!

Oh Michelle, how beautiful is this angel? Better be careful of letting his saintlihood out of the bag, pilgrims may start gathering by the millions in front of your house!

This boy knows his divine connection. He hasn't forgotten. How amazing is that? And what a gift that he expresses it to you, that you in turn acknowledge his experience. We could have all bypassed all the therapy and self-help stuff if we were truly seen like this. Such a wonderful sharing, thanks.

Sounds like a woman I know who wrote an amazing memoir - look for it in bookstores soon!

Whoa. Out of the mouths of babes....

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, Michelle. Your son certainly gets a good measure of this wisdom from you.

so sweet. No wonder Jesus says that we have to become like a little child to enter the Kingdom of Heaven...Seth had no big agenda for God, just wanted to be with Him.
