Hot Toddy and I are standing in the kitchen talking and Riley whizzes by. He reaches out and snatches her, pulling her into a hug.
"How did you get so cute?" He asks, leaning down and kissing the top of her head.
She smiles and takes in his embrace. Riley seldom thinks to offer affection, but we're blessed that she never refuses ours.
"I think when I sleep at night, a cute machine comes in and makes me cute."
Todd and I crack up.
"You think so?" he asks.
She glances up toward the ceiling to the left, thinking, puts her pointer finger to her temple.
"Maybe?" she ponders out loud.

That's one of the moments you'll one day be telling to Riley's own kids, I think.
I hope you pause one in a while to reflect on how far you guys have come. Yours is a truly exceptional story.
I have seen the photos, so I have to agree with Riely that there is clearly some intricate machinery involved here. That level of cuteness doesn't just "happen."
I think so, yes, Riley-so smart.
that's cute.
The Cute Machine? Of course! I thought it was elves! Thanks for clearing that up for me Riley! You're one smart cookie!
I'm so glad you wrote that one down. That's definitely a keeper!lol
I'm such a narcissist, I ask Wil, "How'd you get so cute/funny/smart, etc..?" and then I force him to say, "''cause of you!"
Well Link, you are kind of a cute machine.
That's cute. The things kids come up with!! You never know what comes out of their mouths.
She's a quick thinker. What a blessing you have.
Thanks for sharing. You ought to send in some of her quotes to a magazine that puts in a section for "Things Kids Say" or something. :)
Love that girl. Love her spirit. Love her.
What a great story in have in the bank for a less sunny day.
i think the cute machine has made rounds all the way through your house!
Could Riley send the cute machine to my house?
