After Her Party at Riverside Park

Back and forth, back and forth.

Green leaves and blue sky frame her for me.

Back and forth.

"What are you thinking Riley?" I ask.

"I'm thinking wonderful thoughts."

"Thoughts about what?"

"Thoughts about mommies and Rileys on the tire swing." She smiles.

Back and forth we go.

"Thoughts about Rileys being brave of bees." She adds.

(Riley maintained relative calm despite facing three different bees at her outdoor party today. A major phobia. A major victory).

"Thoughts about opening all my presents." She says, finally.

"You got a lot of presents didn't you?"

Back and forth.

"Yeah. I got everything I wanted."

I smile.

Me too.

I got her.

I was thinking of her all day yesterday.

How was the cake?

DM,

You are so sweet. The cake was de-lish.

Only one friend from school came.

She has just six in her class, and most are from socio-economic disadvantaged homes; I don't think it was that they didn't want to come, since they all fight over who gets to sit by her at lunch.

Her wonderful teacher came, and brought her two kids, and Todd's sister has four, so they are a party in and of themselves.

Nine children was plenty, but Riley did have one moment of crying and wondering if her classmates didn't come because they didn't like her.

With a lot of reassurance she pulled through and had a great day.

Thanks for asking!

Want a piece of cake?

My heart goes out to poor Riley, with her pause wondering about her classmates.

What a sensitive soul.

I'm so glad that she has such a great fan base surrounding her in love.

And HELL YES I want a piece of cake! ;-)

What a wonderful moment. And I love the spacing of it--you had me swinging right there along with her!
