The Cost of Being Uninformed

Asthma? Anyone have asthma?

Bi-polar? Anyone? Anyone?

Allergies? Any peanut allergies out there?

ADHD.

Anxiety.

Don't kid yourselves people. Our nation's children are chronically ill, and it's not just autism I'm talking about. Look the other way about vaccines all you want but your kids will be the ones paying.

Oh, but you'll pay too:

$300.00-600 per week in allergy elimination treatments for the kids.
$800.00 per month for vision therapy.
$300 per month in supplements.

20K a year on therapies insurance won't pay for, (but would pay for if the same issues had been brought on by a different disability).

And I'm just scratching the surface here.

Lately I'm having to cover Seth with a hundred band-aides before preschool (and rip them off later to reapply medicine...complete with screaming and crying) for a viral skin condition he's contracted due to his ill-functioning immune system. He passes, but he's chronically ill too. His allergies are so bad he hasn't been able to breathe out of his nose in over two years. Claritin and the likes of it don't do squat. Thus, the elimination treatments.

No constipation this week. That's a blessing.

Mama's exhausted, and what these kids go through?

Today, I'm mad as hell.

And I tell you what, it feels a lot better than despair.

Mad as hell is just what you should be, and I for one am grateful that you have this forum to share your feelings and all you have learned. You are helping so many.

I hope his skin gets better soon. You are an amazing mom and those two are so lucky to have you!

Michelle,

I know you approve these comments first, so if you don't want to publish this, that's ok with me.

I just want to recommend one thing: find yourself a very good homeopath, one who specializes in autism. They are absolutely out there.

I know that you are a nurse and your husband is a pharmacist so you don't believe in this. Believe me, I know. I'm an engineer and a statistician.

But when all else fails, you will try anything. So I tried homeopathy and here are the results for my family:

My son who is cognitively impaired and on the autistic spectrum but with awesome athletic skills was having axiety attacks while doing his most favorite thing in the world: playing travel soccer. Results after treatment: no more axiety problems.

My daughter had asthma that had gotten so bad that the allergist wanted to put her on advair. She always had phlegm in her throat and any cold immediately went to wheezing and lots of breathing treatments. Results after one treatment: phlegm in her throat is gone, no more exercised induced asthma, no wheezing. As a matter of fact, I don't even know where her inhaler is right now because we haven't used it in so long.

My kids had such good results that my sister decided to try it. She has had bad allergies all her life. She was taking zyrtec everyday, nasal spray nearly everyday and allergy shots. Her results: she no longer takes any medication and no longer gets any shots.

So decide for yourself.

Good for you Michelle. Despair leads to nothing most times other than more depair. Mad as hell however motivates and gets things done!

Anonymous,

Thank you!

We actually have an appt. with a homopath that specializes in autism next week. Your comment could not have come at a better time.

Congrats on your successes and thank you for posting.

We are a RN/Pharmacist team, but we so believe in alternative. Mainstream medicine has done nothing to help our kids.

We have an appointment with a homeopath just down the street from us next week, too, Michelle. This is an interesting "coincidence!"

I'm with you, Michelle. There is something seriously wrong with health care in our country. The average family can't afford 20K in out-of-pocket costs per year.

No wonder Dental and Health Care Tourism is growing in Mexico & China. You can go to Mexico to pay $2500 for dental work that costs $5K here. Plus you've got enough left over for a vacation. While I'm not ready to go that route, I can certainly understand their frustrations.

BTW, A year or so ago I discovered Sinus Rinse by NeilMed (you can get it at Walgreen's here in Ohio). You rinse daily with the warmed water and a little sinus packet. Works like magic. I've rarely needed anything for my allergies and sinus problems since then - as long as I rinse daily.
