Hot and Cold and Tired All Over

Well.

We know what the mood swings, round the clock hot flashes (I'm only 39!), fatigue, three month constant PMS with no "relief," damn the whole world to hell has been about.

A little something called my thyroid.

Seems my body has been making anti-bodies to attack it.

Note to body: Stop it already!

I've been walking around with a broken thermostat. First comes a chill I can't shake. Two minutes later, I'm peeling off layers of clothes.

My wonderful doctor says it is a permanent condition and I need to treat it with medication. I listen. I get the prescription. I start taking the thyroid pills. But I don't believe her.

You see, I've shook hands with a 33 year old man who was severely autistic as a child. He is not autistic now. No traces. He graduated from Brown University and has a successful career.

I have a girl who was once my demon, but is now my joy.

I googled thyroid and the first picture that came up showed the little butterfly gland right there in front of the voice box.

Interesting. This, as I begin to send out manuscripts.

Dear Little Thyroid,

Let's find out what you really need, and give it to you.

Yes, yes - I like that. Ask Little Thyroid what you need.

I'm reading Eat Pray Love right now, and I love that she personifies Loneliness and Depression as a way to sort of figure it all out.

Hope Little Thyroid talks to you soon.

I just had to comment...
I've been recently learning about (hyper/hypo)thyroidism in school. (csnn.ca)

My advice to you,(if you in fact even asking for some),is to see a naturopath doctor. You seem to be showing symptoms of hyperthyroidism.
Adrenal glands are ALWAYS linked to the thyroid, therefore the dr. will be able to develop a safe and natural protocol to get it under control instead of taking meds with side effects.

All the best to you.

Blessings,
Kelly :)

definitely go natural, dahling ... if you can!

Yes, absolutely, adrenal glands are alway affected. I told you I blew out my adrenals! My homeopath gave me something called Thyroid Formula by "Metabolic Advantage."

I agree, you can do fine with a naturopath/homeopath and also giving yourself what you need.

Remember when Ophrah said she blew her thyroid this summer?!

Look into Vitamin E and Selenium.

And let us know what you find, b/c I the thought that I HAVE to take a pill every day for the rest of my life (hypothyroidism for me) really bugs me!

Butterfly = rebirth. Voice box = ability to communicate. Sending out your manuscript = new way for you to communicate. Love that symbolism. Yes. And do let us all know what Little Thyroid is trying to say -- we're all waiting on pins and needles to find out. Really!

It's no wonder your thyroid burned out, Michelle. No surprise that you body is struggling to keep up with the amazing pace set by your heart and soul.

Blessings be.

I am a few years ahead of you and experiencing many of the same symptoms. Please let us know what you find out. Having a nice little dialog with the trans-formative gland sounds like a good idea.

I love that you're letting your body take the lead and tell you what it needs. Ever the thoughtful one, you are, my dear.

Love.

Ditto Puanani!

I'll hurry up and learn Healing Touch then come lay hands on you, but in the meantime, there's got to be one of these people in Cleveland!

love. to Little Thyroid.

love. to you.

Listening to your body...sounds good to me.

Interestingly I've been having exactly the same symptoms for two years and was tested for exactly the same thing last year with the opposite results. I just a year behind you in age and I don't know which is worse. Knowing what the problem is...or not being able to figure out what's going on.

Funny, I have been putting off calling the endrocronolgist for exactly that reason. A lady at work told me one of the tests they do has something to do with radiation...um, pass, thanks.

Michelle O'Neil said...

No radiation. Just a blood draw. If you get your thyroid levels checked you have to make sure they check antibodies and not just TSH levels. My TSH levels were within the normal range but the antibodies were really high.

My own female has thyroidial troubles. Sometimes, she overheats, and a cool bed on the deck beckons.

And last night, while asleep, she gouged my shins with her sharp hind claws.

You have to be careful around thyroidial females.

Michelle O'Neil said...

John you crack me up. HT is the one with the sharp hind claws around here.

Edward scissor toes.

You and Oprah, baby. So trendy with your thyroid issues.

While I appreciate the desire to treat disease naturally, being someone myself who won't take over-the-counter medicine unless I'm really, really suffering, thyroid problems are not something to be taken lightly. I could tell you some hair-raising stories about the terrible effects untreated thyroid disease can have, whether it's hypo- or hyper-. Every blood relative female on my mother's side has one form or another. Medicine prescribed by mainstream doctors is not all bad, and "natural" treatments are not all good.

Love checking in to find this post. Congrats and fingers crossed on the manuscript. Go get 'em! Love that you are communicating with your thyroid, listening what your body is trying to tell you. Agree with kapu...about the butterfly being rebirth/transformation and the voice box being communication. Yes, yes.

And one more thing. Thyroid, adrenals, late thirties, multiple pregnancies, lasting crankiness and pms symptoms...all signal it's time to have your hormone levels checked. Do the saliva testing rather than a blood draw. It's more accurate. You may need to look into bio-identical hormones, such as natural progesterone cream. It's been a godsend for me.

Here's to good health!

Good luck!
