Can't Win for Tryin'

Riley's pink Crocs broke after a good two summer run. She desperately wanted another pair and it took her mother two weeks to take her to Dicks to get them. In the meantime, she had to wear, gasp, sneakers to school and sneakers aren't even pretty!

So yesterday was the big day. She stepped off to school with her Daddy, in brand new glittery Hannah Montana Crocs with two new Jibits. As they got closer to school she started to fret. Not unusual for a Monday, transitioning back from the weekend is sometimes hard for her.

They dropped Seth off at kindergarten, and as they headed toward Riley's classroom she broke down and told HT what the problem was.

"They are just too pretty! Everyone is going to be looking at me." The thought of being swarmed by a crowd of admiring third graders was too much.

Todd talked her down, and they made it to class.

Picture HT waving his arms, drawing a finger across his throat, trying to give the teacher an ix-nay on the ritty-pay, as she glided over to Riley exclaiming,

"LOOK AT RILEY'S NEW SHOES! HOW PRETTY!"

Oy.

Seriously, why are some people (teachers, people in line at the grocery store) so clueless. I wish it was appropriate for me to kick these prople in the shin.

Did she make it through the day?

She made it through the day as far as the shoes go. The teacher that said it was just trying to be nice. Most kids would love the attention. Riley, not so much.

Aww.... glad she survived the day with her too pretty shoes... hope she gets continued joy from them... and just enough positive attention. Life is hard sometimes. I so empathize with her. In my case I crave attention and am terrified by it at the same time.

It's just so typical! I've done that before with noises...like watching someone put on a CD and turn up the volume or something for him - I wind up flailing myself all over the place! "Uh-uh-uh-uh" shaking my head.

Anyhoo sounds like she did okay and that is a really big deal.

You just described my life with Miss M.

I understand completely.

I can see where NT's don't get it...
