Falling in Love With Edgar Sawtelle

I am on page 137 of The Story of Edgar Sawtelle and it is soooooo good! I don't normally read Oprah's book picks, at least not right away (love her to bits, but don't like to be bossed around on what to read). Not since Cold Mountain have I read something so meaty. There is a scene, early on, about a miscarriage that is pure genius. The kind of writing that makes you rest the book on your chest, and take a moment to marvel, how did he do that?

And the dogs! The dogs! I won't spoil it for you.

And if you've read it already, don't spoil it for me, okay?

Only 429 pages to go!

I am anxious to read this book too but I wanted to tell you that many times I have read your posts and thought to myself "how did she do that?" Two that come to mind right away are the story of your Halloween costume - I think it was a Hershey's Kiss - and the story of your grandmother and the special needs child.

You, too, have quite a gift. Thank you for sharing it with us.

(PS: And I am still blown away by the Dixie Chicks video "Top Of The World" that you posted. It totally hit home for me, too. They have taken a stand in the vaccine-autism connection. Gotta love those Chicks! )

It's on my list as the next one to read. I'm on The Little Book by Selden Edwards which is awesome, too.

Both of my sisters said Sawtelle is magnificent!

I don't generally read her recommendations either as there's always too much hype.

I also generally avoid books that make reference to miscarriage.

Maybe I should make an exception!
Cheers

You and I are so alike sometimes. I never read her picks when everyone is reading, because I also don't like to be book-bossed. LOL! But many of them have ended up some of my favs. Waaaay after the fact. So I should be reading this sometime next year. Heh

:)
