One Brave Chick

I found this T-shirt for Riley while I was in Philly. She's wearing it today, her first day of music camp. The last month of school, a girl on the playground walked up to Riley and informed her that "people" were calling her cry baby.

We had a lengthy discussion about how, if those same people were living in a body with her neurological system, they'd probably cry a lot more than she does. We've been reinforcing that bravery doesn't mean not being scared, or never crying.

This shirt speaks to that, and I also loved it because her lovey is a Chickie.

I bet you know a brave chick or two. I know a lot of them.

There are a couple of brave chicks in this post.

For many years of my life, I cried at least once a day. It clears the system and is a good release. Sometimes the brave thing is to cry.

I LOVE that shirt - reminds me of the partridge family (which I adored!) And i love the way you told riley that being brave does not mean you never be scared or cry. I remember seeing in a movie (staring gwyneth paltrow) that someone called her "brave." she responded "I don't feel very brave." and the guy replies: "Being brave doesnt mean youre not scared. Being brave means even though you're scared, you do it anyway."
